CEA Technical Career Fair Name Tag Booth
The ACM assisted with the Fall CEA Technical Career Fair by providing a new service for students. In previous years student would use a hand written adhesive nametag to help employer identify themselves. To make student look more professional and help recruiters quickly identify the majors they were looking to hire, the ACM provided printed nametags for any student that wanted one(and who in their right mind wouldn’t want a spiffy nametag).
Bridget Pilcher, who is in charge of the career fair, created a color coding system for the hand written badges. Each department had a specific color (for example the EECS was blue), by using this color on the name tag recruiters could quickly identify people they wanted to talk to. We adopted this same system when we developed our process to print nametags on the spot. The badge inserts were pre–printed with a color coded stripe for each department. To create a name tag student used one of the laptops provided by the ACM to enter their name, major and class standing. This information would then be printed on a label that would be applied to a preprinted color coded badge insert. The insert would then be slid into their badge holder and off they would go looking sharp and easily identifiable.
We printed about 300 nametags for students at the career fair and hope to chip at the next year too. Since we will have the printers available we will only need to get more badges and labels. Recruiters really appreciated both the color coding and the clearly printed nametags.
Make sure to thank the ACM members that helped out the booth: Corey Olson, Kyle Ryan, Jeffery Tremaine, Mino, Anh-Kiet Ngo (A.K. to people who know him –which is everyone), Dale Cox, Rob Rydberg and Robert Ward. Of course Be sure to thank Dr. Shirazi too. He provided the money to buy one of the label printers for the booth. (No printers no booth)
