ACM - WSU Chapter

XNA Workshop a blast (literally)!

First, we’d like to thank everyone who showed up for not just making the event successful but a blast as well. It was a lot of fun watching your spaceships blast each other out of the sky (Yes, Daniel--I know it is technically outer space and not the sky but it doesn’t sound as good) . You were a great group and your enthusiasm made all the effort well worth it. Congratulations go to Brett Hansen for edging out Daniel Hanson (no relation--I know their last names aren’t even the same but they sound alike) in the Finals of the AI Challenge. While Brett won what turned out to be the best of three match everyone who entered the AI Challenge got an XNA T-shirt thanks to our guest Charles. Of course no event can be a success without many people chipping in. So be sure to thank all of the following people when you see them and let them know how much we, as the students of the EECs department, appreciate their contributions:

  • Dr. Shirazi for approving money for breakfast snacks, pizzas, drinks and prizes for the AI competition.  Also by authorizing our event  to be listed on the home page of the EECS website he helped us generate more interest for our event.
  • The ISG staff, John Yates, Ryan Makamson, and Allen Guyer for letting us use the Sloan lab, allowing us to install XNA on the computers as well as all the help with countless other details.
  • Professor Hagemeister for introducing us to Ivan Lumala, the Microsoft Academic representative to Washington State (not to mention lending us his projector).
  • Ivan Lumala for helping set up the workshop as well as getting us the energetic Charles Cox to present.
  • Patricia Arnold for shooting out an email about our event on such a late notice.  She is a busy person, but she's just that good.
  • Karen Beeson and Ning Hsu for getting the purchase orders to us quickly.
  • The janitorial staff  who helped us make the event run smoothly in particular getting us a large garbage can on short notice.
  • All the ACM members who helped set up and assisted with the clean up afterward with a special thanks to Tom Corll, Nathan Schubkegel and Jeremy RehKap who stayed late.

And most importantly, we would like to thank Charles Cox for donating his Sunday to enlighten us with his XNA expertise. We can’t say enough about his willingness to travel all the way to Pullman to spend the day with us. He was a wonderful presenter and we hope to have him back again. Everyone knows he likes black so he is sure to wear the black WSU sweatshirt we gave him (Go Cougs).

Sorry for not having a lot of pictures.  Both Robert and I forgot our camera at home and these are the best pictures from Robert's iPhone.
